Paint Correction in Dubai: What It Fixes and What It Cannot
31 July 2026 · 6 min read
Paint correction is machine polishing that physically removes defects from your clear coat rather than hiding them. In Dubai it starts at around AED 1,400 for a single-stage correction and AED 1,999 for a multi-step. The most useful thing to understand before you book is which defects it can actually remove, because the answer is not all of them.
What paint correction removes
- Swirl marks, the fine circular scratches that halo around sunlight. Almost always caused by washing, not driving.
- Holograms and buffer trails left behind by a previous careless machine polish.
- Light scratches that your fingernail does not catch on.
- Etched water spots, where hard water dried in the sun and burned a ring into the clear coat.
- Oxidation and dullness, provided there is still clear coat left to work with.
What it cannot remove
Polishing removes material, it does not add it. So anything that has gone through the clear coat is out of reach: deep scratches your fingernail catches in, stone chips, and any panel where the clear coat is already peeling. On a failing clear coat, polishing actively makes things worse. Those cases need paint, and an honest detailer will tell you so rather than take the booking.
The fingernail test
Run a fingernail lightly across the scratch. If it glides over, the defect is inside the clear coat and correction will very likely remove it. If your nail catches in the groove, it has gone through, and no amount of polishing will fix it. This one test will tell you more than most quotes will.
1-step or multi-step
A 1-step is a single polishing stage. It clears most light swirls and wash marks and restores the large majority of the gloss, and it is the right call for a car one to three years old that has never been corrected. A multi-step adds a cutting stage before and a refining stage after, which is what removes deeper swirls and holograms. It takes two to three times as long, which is where the price difference comes from.
If you are unsure, photograph the paint in direct sunlight. Defects that are only visible under a torch at close range are 1-step territory. Defects you can see clearly in daylight from a few steps back usually are not.
Why paint thickness matters
Clear coat is finite, typically a very thin layer, and every correction pass removes a little of it. A professional gauges thickness across the car before starting and monitors as they work. The real risk with cheap correction is not a poor finish, it is an operator chasing perfection past the safe limit and leaving a panel that needs respraying. Ask whether paint thickness is measured. If the answer is vague, walk away.
Correction is not permanent unless your washing changes
The correction itself is permanent, because the defects are gone. But swirl marks are caused by washing, so a corrected car that goes back to automatic brush washes will look swirled again within months. This is the argument for sealing the work with a ceramic coating and switching to a careful wash routine afterwards. Otherwise you are paying to reset a clock that immediately starts running again.
How much does paint correction cost in Dubai?
Single-stage correction starts at AED 1,400 for a sedan and AED 1,500 for an SUV. Multi-step correction is AED 1,999 for a sedan and AED 2,100 for an SUV. At Washii both include a ceramic coating and free collection and return within Dubai.
Is paint correction the same as polishing?
In everyday use in Dubai, yes. Polishing is the physical process, paint correction is the outcome you are paying for: defects removed rather than filled. Watch for cheap quotes that use a glaze to temporarily hide swirls, which is not correction and washes out.
Does paint correction remove deep scratches?
No. If your fingernail catches in the scratch, it has gone through the clear coat and polishing cannot fix it, because polishing removes material rather than adding it. That needs paint.
Is paint correction safe for my car?
It is safe when paint thickness is measured before and during the work. Every pass removes a small amount of clear coat, so there is a hard safe limit. The danger is an operator who ignores it.
How long does paint correction take?
A 1-step takes a full day. A multi-step takes up to two and a half days, because each stage has to be completed and inspected before the next begins.
Can paint correction be done at my home?
Not practically. Judging what the machine has actually removed needs controlled lighting rather than sun, and the work runs a full day on a 1-step and up to two and a half days on a multi-step. Washii collects the car free from anywhere in Dubai and returns it when it is done. Ceramic coating without correction is a different job — that one is applied at your address.
