The Best PPF in Dubai: XPEL, KDX, ONYX and VZN Compared
6 August 2026 · 8 min read
Every PPF shop in Dubai claims to fit the best film, which makes the phrase useless. What is actually true: there are four films we fit, they are all genuine self-healing TPU, and they differ in clarity over time, gloss retention, warranty and price. XPEL (Ultimate) starts at AED 18,000 full-body and is the only one bookable today; KDX (Premium) at AED 16,000 and ONYX (Essential) at AED 14,000 are both paused, and VZN is coloured film for owners who want to change the car's colour and protect it in one go. Below is the comparison, and then the part that matters more than the brand — how to tell a good installation from a bad one.
The four films, side by side
- ONYX (Essential) — AED 14,000 mid-size, AED 15,000 large, currently paused and not bookable. Matte adds AED 1,000. Full-body self-healing protection at the best value. The right answer when you want the whole car covered rather than half of it in a fancier film.
- KDX (Premium) — AED 16,000 mid-size, AED 19,000 large, currently paused and not bookable. Matte adds AED 1,000. A step up in clarity and gloss retention over the Essential tier.
- XPEL (Ultimate) — from AED 18,000 mid-size, AED 20,000 large. Matte adds AED 2,000. The film most owners ask for by name, and the one to pick on a car you are keeping for years. Covered in detail in our XPEL guide.
- VZN Coloured PPF — a full colour change plus protection in a single film, across 56 colours in five finishes: Ultragloss, Shadow satin, Deep Matte, Metallic and Chameleon. Priced per car; browse the range in the colour studio.
Every price above is for the whole car — every painted panel — and includes free vehicle recovery both ways anywhere in the UAE, with the car back in 5-7 business days.
How to actually choose between them
- Keeping the car for years, or it is expensive enough that the paint is worth serious money — XPEL.
- You want premium clarity but the top tier is more than the car warrants — KDX.
- Full-body coverage matters more to you than the badge on the roll — ONYX. Whole-car in genuine self-healing film beats a front kit in a dearer one, every time.
- You want a different colour and protection at once — VZN, which replaces a respray rather than sitting over one, and comes off if you ever want the original paint back.
- You mainly want gloss and easy washing rather than chip protection — you may want ceramic coating instead, at a fraction of the price.
What is not a real difference
Two things get sold as differentiators and are not. The first is self-healing: every genuine TPU film self-heals, so "self-healing film" describes the category, not a premium feature. The second is thickness quoted in mils. Films in this class sit in the same narrow band, and a thicker film with a worse topcoat is not better protection — how the surface handles years of abrasive Dubai sand matters far more than a fractional difference in gauge.
What is a real difference, and rarely advertised, is the adhesive. Film can look perfect while the adhesive underneath hardens in the heat, and hardened adhesive is what makes old PPF grip the clear coat instead of releasing cleanly at removal. We fit our films with a European-made adhesive system specified for extreme-heat climates for exactly that reason.
The installation matters more than the brand
A mediocre film fitted properly outlasts a top-tier film fitted badly, and this is where Dubai quotes really diverge. Four questions separate the two, and none of them are about the roll:
- Is the film cut on the car, or plotted from a template? Pre-cut kits are cut from a model database, which forces conservative edges and leaves visible seams and a line where protection stops. Cutting on the car takes longer and removes both.
- Where is it applied? Indoors, in a controlled environment, or nowhere. Dust trapped under film is permanent.
- Is the paint inspected first? PPF is clear. Anything already on the paint stays visible underneath, and a shop that does not raise this before the car is booked in will raise it after.
- What happens after? A one-week quality inspection and an annual refresh are what keep film alive in this climate. Fit-and-forget is not a service model here.
Why the cheap full-body quotes are cheap
If you are offered a full body under about AED 4,000-5,000, the saving is coming from the film. That is almost always low-grade PVC rather than genuine self-healing TPU: it yellows within a year or two, cracks, and can take clear coat with it when removed. The quote is not a better deal on the same thing — it is a different thing, and the removal bill is the part nobody mentions. Our PPF cost guide breaks down what each price point across the Dubai market actually buys.
Does the best film mean skipping ceramic?
No — they answer different questions. PPF is armour against physical damage: stone chips at Sheikh Zayed Road speed, abrasion, scratches. Ceramic coating is a thin hydrophobic layer that adds gloss, resists UV fade and makes the car easier to wash. Many owners here run ceramic on top of PPF, which is a normal finishing step rather than a contradiction. If you are weighing one against the other rather than stacking them, PPF vs ceramic coating walks through the decision.
What is the best PPF brand in Dubai?
XPEL is the film most owners ask for by name and the strongest option for a car you are keeping, at AED 18,000 full-body for a mid-size car. But the best film for you depends on the car and how long you are keeping it: KDX at AED 16,000 and ONYX at AED 14,000 are both genuine self-healing film and are coming back, though both are paused right now, and full-body coverage in ONYX protects more of the car than a front kit in XPEL.
How much does the best PPF cost in Dubai?
Full-body paint protection film in premium self-healing film runs from AED 18,000 to AED 20,000 at Washii today, XPEL being the one tier bookable right now (ONYX at 14,000 and KDX at 16,000 are paused), with a matte finish adding AED 1,000-2,000. Every figure covers the whole car. Prices advertised from AED 3,500 are partial front kits.
What is the difference between XPEL, KDX and ONYX?
All three are genuine self-healing TPU film — the difference is optical clarity years in, gloss retention and warranty backing. XPEL (Ultimate) sits at the top from AED 18,000 and is the one you can book today. KDX (Premium) at AED 16,000 and ONYX (Essential) at AED 14,000 are paused. None of them is a compromise on the fundamentals; budget PVC film is.
Is coloured PPF better than a respray?
For most owners, yes. VZN coloured film changes the colour and protects the paint in one step, comes in 56 colours across gloss, satin, matte, metallic and chameleon finishes, and can be removed to return to the original factory paint — which a respray cannot. It also leaves the original paint protected underneath rather than sanded away.
How do I choose a PPF installer in Dubai?
Ask four questions: is the film cut on the car or plotted from a template, is it applied indoors in a controlled environment, is the paint inspected and quoted before the film is ordered, and what aftercare follows. Cutting on the car removes visible seams and short edges; indoor application is non-negotiable because trapped dust is permanent.
Is PPF worth it in Dubai?
For a car you plan to keep, usually. Stone chips at highway speed, abrasive sand and relentless UV are exactly what PPF is built to absorb, and the film costs far less than a respray or the resale value of chipped paint. On a car you are selling within a year, front-end PPF plus ceramic is often the smarter spend.
